We have a new manufacturer down here: http://www.camperette.com.au/

They are using fibreglass sandwich construction. I am not particularly fond of it.
What do others think?

Cheers
Paul

Paul....it's not bad looking, but from the shot of the interior compared the exterior side shot, there is a lot of "skirting" around it for that low look...I'm afraid that I'd have all that nice looking white interior looking pretty grubby , especially in the galley...some larger tires and fenders would also look a bit better, but that's just my opinion...Doug

Paul... I have seen it used in building larger boat cabin walls and such and thought it was pretty neat way to do it. They laid the first layer of glass cloth down on a big table with a slick surface sprayed with wax, then laid on the foam core wet on the contact side, then glassed the back. They could make great big panels this way. They were building 32 foot oil rig tenders and fishing boats. Kinda expensive process though, I think.

A few years ago I helped build some rather large beer coolers for a bar and we used that method. These were 4' x 8' open top beer coolers on 4 x 4" legs for icing down a bunch of bottle beer at one time. We used foam insulation board with aluminum on both faces. Just built a big box and laid on about 3 layers of glass fabric and resin. As far as I know they are still going strong 15 years later.

Now, I think, you can buy panels already fiberglassed... Prolly expensive, but sure would be light weight. Nice looking tears they are building even with the bare bones galley.

4x8 is tight for 2 people... I know some like it, but most are going to 5x?.... Camp-Inn has discontinued making any 4' wide trailers. All of their models are now 5' wide....

Over $5800 US for a 4X8? that's kinda expensive. It has a distinct look, maybe due to the skirting, but it's bland inside.

Mary....you just started that to stir up some trouble, and I mention that as you used it twice as a condiment....Miracle whip???? Excuse me!!!! Well I guess it does make a for a good fiberglass release agent in a mold....and what a way to ruin a perfectly good sandwich that some poor creature gave it's life up for....Shame on you.... Mayo forever....Hellmans, better known as Best Foods east of the Rockies.... Doug
