Thank you, Thank you,

It's just the spar urethane, the pecan stain made it to dark. I like the slight amber color the spar gave it. See, when I was testing it, I applied it with a brush and that was to dark, So I applied the first thin thin coat with a lint free cloth almost rubbing it in. Then the remaining coats are applied with a brush Its the look I was going for anyway!!

lookin good.

Wish I had warmer temps to get some things done. I guess if you are wearing shorts there's plenty of nice weather to keep on working.

Have fun.

OOOOOHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

You're not even going to TEASE us with your pile of spar material in the backgorund of those shots…or do you still have to buy it?

That's your next step, right?

SPARS ROCK!!!

What do you have planned to use for that???

Also, have you pulled the crap off of the floor of the TD yet and taken your first nap?

It's FUN!!!

Ira, Wasn't the dance teasing enough?? :lips:

No real spars yet, just temp scrap 1x2's from the floor build. I saw some NICE Aspen 1x2's at Lowes for the real spars.

NO, Darnit, I didn't take a nap yet in it...I knew there was a reason not to take the walls down to stain... :x

I don't know how much insulation you have planned for the roof--I just did 3/4" all around--but if you're going with 1 1/2" up there, make sure you take a tape measure to see that that you have a full 1 1/2" on it. I seem to recall stories from folks where the 2" DIDN'T translate to a full 1 1/2".

I used Poplar, but from what I've heard here, pine is fine. Exceptin' the poplar you buy at HD is as straight as an arrow, whereas even select pine can get funky as to bowing and such.

Also, I doubled up (laminated) 1 by 2 spars, for 1 1/2" square spars.

I think they call it anal retentive.

I haven't really thought that far in advanced, but I would think 3/4" should be enough for the southeast weather.

Yup, out of the 12 8' Pine pieces I did buy, a few were katywampus. That's why the Aspen looked so good. Poplar is prob cheaper. I just saw the Aspen and got the caught in the "deer in the headlights" look, along with tunnel vision.

Good Idea!

Hey, I work with engineers, I know anal retentive when I see it. Sometimes it good, most times its BAD!! Relax Dude!!

Ira, thank you for your input and help, I appreciate it, lots!

Very nice job, MaryK. Will you come build my Benroy? I am too dumb to figure it all out. I wished I had that much done and was able to do the Teardrop Dance too.

Thanks for noticing I disappeared, LOL!
Things have been insane at work lately, so I haven't had much building time or online time.
Hopefully I can finish up the 'Mander after Christmas.

BTW, after seeing those pics of your nice, neat, well organized stained glass work area I was inspired to tackle my 'junk room' and turn it into a useable work space! I just need to build a rack for my glass and move the grinder out there and I'll be back in business!
Thanks for the inspiration! 8)

MaryK... sounds like you got it figured out. You prolly already know this... But, for future reference, you can dilute stain (with mineral spirits/paint thinner) as much as you want to get the shade you like. You can also mix different stains to get unique shades & colors too... I sometimes use as much as 5 to 1 spirits just to lightly shade some woods.

Your really on a roll now... the tear is lookin good.
