Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I've got the sides done, including interior skins, at least ready to pile on more coats of epoxy on the exterior...it looks blotchy...that's because I used a fairing additive to the epoxy which eliminates a lot of penetration of the resin and will smooth out the exterior. Since the sides are going to be painted this time and not a woody, I wanted to seal them off and build up the smoothness on them, in a hurry...Sides and top are going to be auto paint on this trailer, so the discoloration isn't an issue. I also added several wood accents to the side, which are just held on right now in 2x sticky tape, rough fit up, not final, they will be also epoxied on to the sides and "faired" into the body...the Trolley top will have 4 portholes in each side, (might be difficult to see), in automotive glass, plus I haven't worked out the details yet, but each side of the raised portion will have an accent stripe in a 3D effect like the lower stripes on the body ...what is shown is the template...the real thing should happen this weekend...it might look stupid...but I don't care...this is a hoot to build!!!!! I'm just trying to do something outside the box!!!! .Doug

Thanks everyone...it's still a little rough, but I can take care of that in a hurry with some epoxy, a sense of humor and a little creativity, once I get the "look" I want. Something that people will need to realize is that when building a tear in this method, meaning, epoxy on wood, and no aluminum, or in the case of someone like Gaston, who did complete glass layup and body work on foam... it might look like crap to some people right down to the last couple of days, primer and sanded bondo.....After you shoot the paint on it, then it all comes together, that's when you really see what your efforts have given you...take a look at Gastons, absolutely premium work!! ,just remember that how good your paint job comes out is only as good as the sub surface work that went into it.... with some time and effort on mine....It will fly...Doug

Looks great, You need to put some caddy tail lights in the back fin for 3rd brake lights. It looks the same arc as a 60-70's tail fin.

Very very nice. I really like the look of the portholes. If I ever build another one it is going to have a trolley top something like yours.

Doug, I like it. I know it's your mock up but, I think It would be nice if you could do a 3/4" bull nose on the top edge of the tear and trolley top to smooth it all into the Art Deco look that you appear to be going towards. The end point of your trolley top looks a little sharp and subject to damage. I would put a radius on the end to smooth out your lines. Very nice, Danny
