Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Well, I have learned what Teardrop time is. After waiting for the correct piece for my trailer, I have finally finished assembling the trailer and mounting the axle. I decided to quit being so timid about getting into the build. I will be starting the assembly of my floor for the Generic Benroy tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Have fun! It has been a 9 month build for me so far. You will use and polish such skills metal working , welding, carpentry, electrical, painting to name a few. As you near completion you will wish you could build another just for the fun of it.

These things take as long as they take. Sometimes progress is very fast, some times incredibly slow.

I got mine to the point of usefulness, but the final details are taking longer!

Your mileage may very, but enjoy the build. Camping is great, but building can be a reward all it's own.

yes....teardrop time.

I missed finishing with the cold weather setting in. Almost 90% done and planning on tinkering with little things over the winter. Then just need that first warm week of the spring to get the out done.

I am sooo looking forward to using the td for camping fun!

Well, got the floor about 90% done. Just waiting on the Gorilla Glue to dry on the 1x2 sub-floor studs. I'll get some pics on here soon when there's actually something interesting.

Quick question, What type of router bit would I use to trim the floor edge square with the 1x2 outer rails? A Flush Trim Bit?

A flush trim bit would work. You could also use a pattern bit. They are available with the bearing on the bottom or on top.

Cool deal. I went and got the Flush Trim bit today after reading your post. I got back and have finished the floor. All floor spars are glued and screwed. Next step will be the Asphalt Emulsion. It take time to build one of these jokers. I made a deal with myself that if I screw up the floor or walls twice, I would go buy a Little Guy 6 Wide Sport. There's one on Ebay for $4995 and it's not selling.

I promise as soon as I clean up my shop a little and vacuum up some sawdust, I'll take some pics. I used the router with the flush trim bit and the floor edge came out nice and even from front to back. The floor is officially done....except for the Asphalt Emulsion and Insulation. I'll start brushing on the black goop tomorrow and then on to the walls. I picked up some 1/8" Luan for my template. I had no faith in my ability to draw out the profile so I bought the full sized Benroy profile pattern on butcher paper from Tiny Tears. Moving right along..pics are forthcoming.

Hey.... No rigging you shop for photos. We want to see it in all it's glory. Then we can pick out small unrelated things and comment about them.

That is no deal. Quitting is not allowed. Paragraph 24, subsection 13c, of the TD builders code prohibits quitting in the event of adversity. Once you have started there is no turning back. Read my post entitled "Major setback" http://tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?t=12224 then checkout my album. With the help and encouragement of everyone on this forum things have a way of working out. They call it "Learning new skills."

The first skill to learn is taking and posting pictures. Think of it as the price you pay for all this advice. I found that reading these posts saved me from making some mistakes that others made. Reading mine will hopefully save you from making the same mistake I made. If you don't screw something up, you're not building.

You have to look at it this way, Sandman, once the floor, walls and hatch is hinged, you have built a teardrop. Now all you have to do is finish it. Don't even think of buying if you are in the build mode. Do take lots of pics, ask lots of questions and it should be a piece of cake.
