Workin on the Galley Hatch # 2 with the Jitters and Success

Postby Classic Finn » Sat Jan 06, 2007 2:49 pm

I started going at the hatch # 2 this evening, and boy ohhh boy ... talk about the nervousness...why is that :QM So far all spars match to the sides..thats a good sign. (fingers crossed) Ive got a total of 6 spars.. even though the photos show 4.. debating if I should use all of them or stay with 4...

nothing bolted or glued yet...or cut as of yet.

Before the bottom hatch is started I,ll put aluminum on the frame back edge there as shown...So that the bottom of the Hatch will rest there once closed.. also a rubber seal installed...

Looks good to me. Just take your time and use screws so you can fix anything. Then you can come back and add glue. uh. don't forget the glue.

Looking great there Heikki!!! This is going to turn out wonderfull!!! Here's some advice...just take your time, step by step....glue a joint, drink a beer, watch a re-run of MASH, glue a joint, eat a piece of leftover pizza, watch a re-run of Beverly Hillbillys, drink a beer, glue a joint, tuck the young un into bed, drink a beer, glue a joint , kiss the wife, dig out the first aid kit (just in case)...under no circumstances cut a board at this time..

Uh oh...that's how I would do it...maybe that's not such good advice

Heikki,
Is your hatch going to fit inside the body? What I am really asking is did you cut away for the seal? If you did the ribs should stick out from the body the amount of the seal.

Miriam

This is the reason for clamping the side spars of the Hatch to the outside for now...To get an even cut to the floor and frame edge. and top rib where the Hatch Hinge goes...
