If I were covering a whole house, I would balance the lower cost of the white beadboard against the superior properties of the extruded polystyrene foam (pink or blue or whatever, depends on brand). For a trailer floor I would certainly use the extruded material, which is much less likely to disintegrate into little annoying beads. It comes in varying densities and compressive strengths, and I assume that this application could use the cheapest or most readily available type.
I have been planning to insulate the bottom of my travel trailer, which has a plywood floor. I was planning on the screw-and-washer approach, partially so I can remove and re-install if required.
Also, I was thinking I would need to use some sort of protective skin, such as the thinnest fiberglass panel I could find. I will be on gravel occasionally, and I doubt exposed foam would survive well. That's another reason for wanting to use screws - they would hold the panel, which would serve as a really big fender washer.
Does this make sense to anyone?
