Sidewall hatch cutout

I need some help. I am using the Kuffle Creek 10' Comet plans and Steve Frederick's plans to build my trailer. Problem that I am having is neither set of plans gives details for the depth of cut (for either set of plans) or the radius of the cut (Steves plans) for the hatch offset into the side walls. Ultimately I will be using Steves radius cut since I like the way it flows with the overall Comet shape.

Can someone give me some insight as to how this cut should be made? Does the cut extend all the way to the tear tail end or does it taper?

Greg...the cutout is for the seal to fit into and should follow the radius of the hatch...the cutout is usually 1/4 to 3/8th...this is something you will have to determine for yourself...A PM to Steve may be in order if you are using his build CD/techniques........

Greg, did you send an E-mail? If so, I accidentally flushed it!

If you want the wall seal like I show in the manual, just cut the hatch at a line parallel to the profile, and about 1-1/2" away from it. The inner gusset is the same (more or less) set-up as in the Kuffel Creek plan. I do the same for all of my hatches. Check out the illustrations in the manual for the sectional view of the seal surfaces..Need more? Just send another E-mail! I'll keep it this time, honest!!

Madjack, I suspetced that it was more of a personal preference thing, so thanks for the tip.

Steve, I sent you an e-mail from my office, which you may have thought was spam, so no worries. I will ask here. I looked again at your plans and found that you said the hatch should be at least 2". Does that mean that I cut the side profiles 2" from the original edge? I drew up a cut and radius on CAD last night and came up with what looks like your cut in your manual. I will study some more as I have plenty to do before I get to this cut.
