Floor & Wall Support

Hi all,

I'm wondering if you can tell me your opinion on which design for the floor & wall layout appears to be the most secure. I'm not sure how to post a picture in the body of this message but I've uploaded the two designs in my album.

In the securing floor picture you'll see that the floor only goes to the end of the frame. In the second graphic you'll see that the floor goes out an inch with the 1"x2" directly under it.

Thanks in advance to any input you can give.

I went with the inkwell support 2? in your pictures.
Of course it's never been on the road yet so I guess we'll see

Mine is closer to this one except I made the sidewall lower to hide the trailer frame.

I extended the sidewall down also on the other side so that the frame will be hidden, just haven't gotten this side yet. Also wraped the front of the frame so you can't see it eather.

Thanks for the Welcome

Thanks for the photo, Scott. I'm wondering if there is a reason why you went with the design that way instead of the other?

I'm just trying to figure out which is the best way to go, thanks in advance.

Lynn

Thanks

Asianflava, thanks for chiming in. Do you think it is a problem to show the frame? Having gone with the aluminum, I'd love to have the frame show as an accent edge.

My thought was that it would add support for the wall to rest on the floor that is resting om the frame, rather than all the wall resting on the side bump out only. Of corse this was just my thinking.

Showing the frame is a personal choice on most trailers. The reason why my particular profile has this "skirt" is to gain floorspace. If you raise the floor, it will be closer to the apex of the the front and rear arcs.

My frame is painted silver(ish) with an anti-rust paint so it probably would have blended in anyway.

I was in a similar situation (wanting to hide the frame). I bolted the side directly to the frame and used a healthy amount of construction adhesive. I think the combination of glue and bolts will keep the overall box design tight and will absorb some of the downward shock the box feels while traveling down the road. The glue provides the extra shear grip - bolts alone might concentrate those jolts to a few areas and widen out the holes over time. Speculation, but its mine.

Lynn... I think I would use a 1 x 4" along the bottom edge of the sidewalls. No significant added weight and it would cover up the frame & be stronger. Plus, you don't really need a 3/4" plywood floor... A 1/2" floor would save weight and work just fine with the horizontal supports you are using. Just my humble suggestions.
