I have started installing my headliner. Not to happy with the luan...but I can cover it later with the expensive birch as funds become available.





Also, I have finished the interior cabinets.



I am purchasing my electrical stuff on line now...

Looks great to me. The problem with working with Birch is also looking at luan. Luan is different, not necessarily bad. Love the cabinets. did you use your jig saw to cut the holes?

Take a scrap of your Luan and try different stains until you find one that you like. Luan can look nice after you stain it. Most interior doors in most houses are Luan.

To answer your question. Yes you can install another sheet of something else over it if you don't like it. Maybe just a sheet of Veneer.

Great job!!!! The luan looks really good, and the cabinets are excellent!

I'm jealous...I cut out my headliner pieces yesterday, but it'll be a while until I get things glued up.
Oh well, until then I'll live vicariously, so keep postin' 'da pics!

At Doug's urging I have tried aniline dyes instead of typical stain. Initially I used stain and have switched to the dye. It is far superior especially on inexpensive wood. I was blown away at how much better it was. I thank Doug for keeping on touting its merits.

Looks good to me too! I think Guy (and Doug's) suggest on the dyes vs stains is an excellent idea.

Whoa!!!! MaryK, You are rocking that teardrop. That Benroy looks great. I think the headliner looks nice myself. You are doing an excellent job. Will you come build mine for me?

I don't see any problem with the luan! I think you are doing a wonderful job!
I'm with the stain guy's. I wouldn't use stain on a piece of birch or oak, but it could make the luan a bit more interesting. Just keep on truckin' kid! You're doin' great!

Well... I have already put a coat of Polyshades on the luan before I installed it. And id does look better that it did before the stain.

And no, I have not stained the Birch, just Spar Urethane.

Do what ya can to get it installed.

I have been gluing 1 or 2 spars at a time and letting them dry 24 hr with the "supports"...here is what I did last night.



Use what ever it takes....
