My opening is 30 by 43. Is there a certain amount that I should reduce the door by.... say 1/4 inch over all? Never been here before and its hard to visualize this..... thanks.

It depends on how you finish it, but 1/4" all the way around is a good spacing guide to allow room for trim and seals.

Hard to give an exact number. It will vary depending on how you plan to trim out and seal the door and how you trim out the door opening.

You'll have to take into account all the thicknesses of moldings or trim, hinges, weatherstipping, etc. that go into your design.

Post a little more info on how you plan to trim and weatherproof your door, and also what kind of wall thickess you are planning.

SR, it all depends...we used 3 pieces of 1/16th trim on the door/opening plus a 1/8th gap for a total of 5/16th...that looked good on paper but when installing we had to subtact another 1/16th for proper fit, making a total of 3/8 all around...we use a interior seal system as opposed to the more common exterior seal system......

I've been out remeasuring and thinking...... I might just go to a light 3/8 just to be safe. My first attempt and this part is harder than I imagined it to be. This isn't a regular Teardrop, but more of a utility type trailer that I initially wanted to install some 4x8 walls on to make it more stackable for a road trip.... then I went a little crazy and started enclosing it. Next thing I knew I had opened up the roof ( that wasn't suppose to be there) for a roof vent.... and on it goes. Having fun and learning alot of things for the first real Teardrop I build. My dog has already staked out this trailer as his own doghouse.... In it as we speak snoring away.

Anyway, back to the door.... what magic words should I search on to bring up the inner or outer seal system you mentioned? My searches tend to turn up several thousand hits and very little to do with my search intentions.

The trailer has 1/2 walls out of cheap 4 ply junk plywood I got for about $12 each. Remember it was going to be just some sidewalls when I got started..... WHEW!! I finally got them straight enough and have put the door framework at the rear. The trailer is 5x8.

#9, the Generic Benroy uses the "T" molding sealing system...I believe that "blesoe3" has some good pics of this system in his album...Steve Fredericks and myself use a inner seal system...it can be a little more complicated to implement than the "T" molding style...both work well......

SR9, Here's a couple of pictures of the t-moulding (exterior seal) Jack mentioned.
