Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

A/C or no A/C... a/c is nice IF you have power, which means "not" being in the "primitive area", or carrying a generator and fuel around... Here in Kansas it gets hot and it gets humid... are windows and a roof fan enough on those June/July/August sultry nights. It's easier to put the thing in now, but I'm wonder how often I'd be "able" to use it... I have 2 15x30 windows and was thinking about adding two more 15x12's in each door.

Keith---it depends 100% on what you are used to. When I worked outside all day 80* was cold. When Mike is out in the heat he can't sleep and gets sick. Some people don't adjust. Now when the wind blows that is a different story.

We rarely get below 40% humidity here so air is nice.

Do you use AC at home on those June/July/August nights??? If you do then you will want it in your tear!

Believe me, you will want it. However, I'm in the same situation as you, in that most of the time when I use the teardrop there is no power, and I don't want to lug a generator around.

So, I installed the windows on my tear so the open part of them is at the same level as the bed, and installed a roof vent with a fan. It works pretty good, and I also have one of the 12volt tent fans and put that in front of one of the window and have it blow more air on me. I usually wake up at about 1 or 2 o'clock and turn off the fans because I'm too cold. And, it does get hot in Texas!

Hey SteveH... yes we are in the same boat.. I also have a CJ7...not a lot of room to lug around a generator...even a small one like the Honda...unless I had a hitch rack on the back of the TD, which isn't totally out of the question...now when I take the Suburban, that might be a different story... so far..."putting it in" has more votes than "not putting it in....

For me personally, I think I would be fine with large screens and the Fantastic Fan. (Been a Boy Scout Leader for years tent camping with no electricity).

However, I want a teardrop so hubby will camp with me, so AC will be a must for me. Plus we have to stay at places with electricity cause hubby uses a CPAP machine.

...electricity is my freind...put the AC in...down here in La, I could camp 7-8 months with just the Fantstic Fan but the rest of the time would be a no go...it's not just the heat, it's the humidity...when its midnite and it's 85 with 85% humidity, you just can't do without...

Well Madjack.. we would like to "travel" w/ our TD so who knows where we'll end up of what we'll need. I guess I was just afraid that by cutting the hole and putting in it... IF and when it breaks down ($80 Samsung from Lowes 16x12x13) getting another to fit that hole would be a buger and "then what" OH BOY... more work to do.. and here I was getting ready to clean and sand...

Good, bad, right or wrong, here's what I believe I will do.. I will not install the a/c in a fixed postion...by doing so I gain and tremendous amount of storage up front...I have doors on both sides so on the days I need it and have power, I will just have to "hillbilly" it up outside on the 2nd door w/ some tubes, something, etc....thus on the times I don't need it or don't have power I wont be carrying around the weight, etc.... I really appreciate everyones thoughts; guess I'm going w/ the best of both worlds except when in use it might look "crazy".. Now I can install a front box that's big to hold the battry, lawn chairs, and other do-dads..which should be nice.

Heres what im doing and you use this ifno as you wish but i camp a lot ...Bluegrass festivals all summer long then bowhunting trips almost every weekend from sept to jan then turkey huntin and taking moneybags to the beach once in a while so i spend a lot of time putting up my coleman pop up and taking it down( no ac).a lot of the time im by myself thats the main reason for the tear!I just cut my hole for ac in frt of tear.I decided that once i spent the 89 bucks at lowes for the frigadare that it would be well worth the money,I cant sleep when its hot.i have speen lots of sleepless nites and this 89$ can fix that....worth it to me.I also just bought the honda 2000I generator that cost 869.95 and it weighs in at 46 lbs , its the quietest gen i could find and its smaller than my cooler.It'll run that ac and a lot more.Runs up too 15 hrs on 1.1 gal gas and if you set it behind a big tree you cant here it from 20 feet.Works for me!

I was sure we wouldn't need a/c since we camp in the mountains most of the time. But, the first place we camped was at the ITG in Minden, NE. It was hot and humid all night, worst 3 nights sleeping that I can remember. We were laying in the trailer awake at 1:00 a.m. watching the thermometer since we couldn't sleep and there wasn't anything else to do. Even worse we could hear everyone else's a/c running since we had the doors wide open trying to catch a breeze. We now have a pet cool.

Nice thread MJ I would like to add the second mod on Julie's thread also gives you a constant supply of fresh air and that is a good thing in such a small space. This is what I plan to do for my little guy trailer Thanks for the thread MJ
