Hey all,
Im getting ready to cut the Hinge after pouring over the Sticky on the subject for the last 2 days. I’m going to take a guess that I have to remove the material listed below so the Hatch side will fit within the walls? That’s taking into account the 1/2" + on either side for the Roof side of the hinge, and the 1/4" for the hatch side per MJ's explicit instructions in the Sticky,
Any help would be greatly appreciated....no really

Mike, is your hatch gonna fit completely inside the walls...top skin and all...what method are you going to use to seal it...on our builds, the top skin(s) comeout over the side walls and seal against the top edge of the side walls......

My hatch extends out over the sidewalls as well as down inside them. Therefore, I attached the hinge on the top of the hatch and it extends to the outer most edge on both sides. You may be able to see some pics in my 'Build and Camping Photos' under this post.

Jack, it’ll be like ToyPushers, over the edge, I do know Ill need to route the profile to accept the Weather stripping, 3/8"? There will also be weather striping where the Hatch rib/spar rests on the side body.
Just unsure if i need to have the hatch side hinge over the edge of the roof, and if so, do I remove the vertical piece in the Picture above? Just to the point it fits inside the galley wall?

Mike, from what you just said, I say to leave it as is pictured, remove no more of it at present...if for some reason you need to remove more, you can do so at a latter date easily...once cut it is gone forever...one of my favorite mantras to tell folks is to dryfitdryfitdryfitdryfit before you commit to anything that can't be undone....

...Mike, stupid me...D'OH I just looked at the pic a little closer and yes, that portion of the lower flange will have to be relieved(removed) so the hatch can close...we trimmed ours off even withe outside face of the spar, about a 1/4" inside the wall...my apologies...I'll blame it on the hayfever medication ...

Hey MJ, Not a problem, Allergies are the pits!! Was actually thinking of leaving Lower hinge the whole length of the hatch to lend support and just remove that Flange which prevents it from closing. it would be flush To hatch roof,
So to recap: remove hatch side flange (red X in picture above) to just inside Galley walls, leaving top portion.

Hope you feel better, Or take some more medication so you just dont care!

Just be doubble carefull and check 3 or 4 times before you cut the hinge.
i didnt and now i have to order a new hinge i cut about 2 in of both ends of my hinge only to relize that i cut the wrong side.Now i have to call and order another hinge.Another of the things i learned the hard way

I'm thinking I'm confused... take a look at the 3rd pic down to see how my hatch is cut.... and why the hinge, both parts, extend outside the tear a bit....

Second I think he's going to have his side on the inside of his wall, and the ply resting on his wall......(I hope, I hope, I hope....)

you have the hatch part of the hinge installed upside down.
the leg of the hinge goes to the back side of the hatch, and the holes go on top of the hatch.
ps, here's how the hinge looks like when you install it.

No.. I think he's right... the piece that accepts the plastic cover goes on the body.. the other piece goes on the hatch....

I'm not using this hinge, so don't take my word as gospel....

Jeez... six beers later... and I can't spell worth a damn.......
