Which is the best way to attach the fender...screw them directly to the sidewall; bolt/weld them onto the chasis or a combination of both sidewall and chasis...Mine fender don't have "backers" so I either need to install them or paint the TD under the fenders black.

When I built the Chubby, I used T-nuts as per the instructions.
Installed from the inside. You still have a 1/4 inch hole in the side to receive the fender bolt, so the fenders bolt directly to the side.

On this gereneric dude I'll prolly just bolt through the side since, "I ain't got no stinkin' frame" -- T-nuts would still be an option but still visible from the inside but "I ain't goin' to no fashion show". T-nuts could be recessed and covered with some kind of "decorator stuff."

On the Chubby the T-nuts were covered by the inside skin

Prolly not much help but FWIW.

Hey thanks.... I was thinking about something like that and then having to cover the insides with carpet or something to "hide" the fastners... Just hate drilling more holes into the sides if you catch my drift. Do your fenders have steel backers, or did you just paint the TD under the fenders?

Mine is probably overkill but you can stand on them mounted.

The round stock is welded to the frame.

Hey bledsoe3, that's nice... do they "wiggle" or do you have another attachment on the body anywhere... that looks really good.

Keith, I used "T" nuts inside on the outer piece of 1/2" Baltic Birch then another layer of 1/2" to lock them in and covered it all with 1/4" Red Oak plywood. I have three 3/8" bolts (SS) that way and 2 that go through the bottom of outer wall with nuts, that part overhangs the chassis. I've had my fenders on and off about 6 times with no problems. :) Danny

My interior is already skinned so "hiding" them will require some "creative design". I quess if I go to bolts to the TD over the chasis I could always put a few threaded inserts from the "outside" into the 3/8" plywood exterior wall and that would prevent them from going through the interior skin, black weatherstripping against the whole fender to keep it from "rubbing" paint raw....thats a whole "nother" topic...why do homestores sell weather stripping in brown and white - does no-one like basic black anymore

On the chubby I skinned it with AL. No backers but no problem.

No wiggles. The holes were drilled into the fenders so it sucked them into the body. No holes in the side of the trailer.

I just used some fat short stainless steel screws and screwed them straight to the body 3/4 inch plywood. Been like that for 2 years with no problem. I did not paint under them just left that aluminum like the rest of the body.

Keith, I think you can get fender welting (weatherstripping) from R.W. Johnson listed in Rich's List at the top of this page. :) Danny

...for welting, we used some 3/16th x 1.25" closed cell weatherstripping which was either black or a VERY dark charcoal grey...it came from our local ACE hdw...it really worked well......

Try searching for "fender welting" OR "cap tape". You can also do like MJ did on his and use silicone caulk. Put a good bead on and partially tighten the fender, when the silicone is completely dry, then finish tightening the bolts.
