I worked on the hatch today

I got all the vertical hatch pieces cut today,put in the header to attach the hinge to. I have all of them just sitting in place for now, I still have to put in the horizontal parts and bracing. The very rear tip of the hatch will be solid wood so I dont have to worry about bending the plywood around that sharp point at the rear. Aaron

Thank You! I have never been able to do things the easy way and man do I pay for it! The galley will be U shaped, You will actualy step in about 16" and have the sink on one side and the stove on the other (if it works out) The floor in between will slide in under the back when the hatch opens.

Aaron...very nice indeed...are hatch spars even with the side wall...how are you going to seal the hatch to the side wall...are you going to need to cut an offset into the sidewall for the seal/trim/etc. to fit into...it has to go somwhere.......

Thanks Guys!, As for the hatch seal I left a 3/16 space all around it for clearance and will work on the the seal area today..

Looks like it's coming together nicely Aaron...Having just finished up my hatch...I'd be willing to bet a sheet of 1/8" baltic birch bent with the grain would make that bend...then another sheet on top if not doing aluminum. just a thought. Doug

that is an awesome design.
are you going to have a wood exterior or skin it. my next one i am going to take a lot more time and make better lines. i kept my first simple to learn on.

Thank you! I am still debating wether to use aluminum or 29 ga. steel but I am really starting to lean towards the aluminum.
I will probably only be able to afford to skin the roof with aluminum at this point but I will eventually cover the sides as well and paint them until then. But you never know, I may get so excited when I get a little further along and spring for the whole thing.it's gonna take two 4X10 sheets to cover both sides and another 5'X16' to cover the roof (thats probably what will happen,heck I dont need to eat! )
