Duraback/Herculiner Photo Request

I've seen several "threads" about Durabak and Herculiner and other DIY bedliner type products, however, the only photo I've seen is the "blue TD" which was done professionally. Does anyone have some photos of the DIY product applied to the exterior of their TD instead of paint...or has everyone who's "thought" about it, opted for a more traditional coating....just curious. My TD is preped for Brightside by Interlux right now...hope to apply in 2 weeks time. The bedliner stuff is FAR easier to apply in "reading" but still, I'm curious to who has actually used it on exterior TD walls and roofs, etc...sure seems like it'd hold up to rocks, etc.

I don't have any pics, but have you looked at this product? It's UV stabalized and comes in many colors and available in a gloss finnish.

Yup..I've seen the product...just haven't seen it on a TD... lots of talk about it but haven't seen it done other than the "professional" done one.

How quick before you need to know? I am probally 99.9% sure this is the route I am going to go. Will be ordering tomorrow. It just seems like it would be easy to apply and will hold up.
I emailed them and they say just hit it with 80 grit sand paper and roll it on. Figure 3 gallons and $422.
If not in a hurry I will do a write up and pictures hopefully next week.

Great Elmo.. we'd ALL love to know... are you going w/ Durabak? See, I was told I would have to "prime", since I also sealed w/ Epoxy... GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN - VERY anxious to see how it turns out.
I would have 4 gallons most likely:
4x10=40x2=80 (sides)
5x16=80 (whole top)
5x5=25 (inside galley and edges)
185 sq ft / 55 = 3.36 gallons - round up to 4
I believe I'm going the "Brightside" route, but was considering this for a "rock-guard" around the edges, on the front, the fenders, battery box, etc.... in an "accent" color.
This will be a great post to follow and on a great TearDrop too... looking forward to the write up and photos.

elmo..What company did you go with? color? I would think it would be a great product o use if you wanted a maintenance free unit.

I am sorry! I should of said the Durabak. I was thinking smooth, but getting tired of sanding and the Durabak not in smooth would be more forgiving.

Cool, thanks for the info.. due to cost, I opted for paint... however, I'm thinking of buying 1 gallon in an accent color to do the front of the TD and the fenders where rock chips will most likely occur.

Well I ordered the Durabak online on Sunday...it said it would take 5-7 days...I just got the tracking information 5 minutes ago. It just left their building by way of FEDEX Ground.
I was hoping it would be here today!
That will teach me to wait until the last minute.

Well shucks... well, this will give you some time to make your shop area spick and span for a clean dust free work area to apply it in... Really look forward to seeing it... one thing is.. you don't have all the priming, sanding, priming, sanding, painting, sanding painting.. once you get it you'll be done ASAP...that'll be nice.
... Take plenty of pics. Heck, I ordered my stuff a week ago and I STILL don't even have a tracking number... oh the tension...

I have a little interior painting to do and need to finish up the trailer part anyway. It was going to be good timing because the wife and monsters leave for the in-laws tomorrow morning and I head down on Sunday morning, so it would of been nice to not having little hands trying to touch it as I was putting it on.

Hey Elmo... I just got my primer/paint today...they never even sent a tracking number... so tonight I plan on washing the TD down and putting on the first very light primer coat.

I too got my box of goodies. I am getting rid of the kids thursday and friday, so my plan is to finish it then. My trip to South Dakota got cancelled due to a little snow storm coming this way.
I was out in my buddies shop until 3am this morning painting the bottom of my trailer and hopefully will be going out there in a little bit and finish it up and bring it home. I will post some pictures tomorrow if I do. And then on Saturday I will have a mounting party. Basically lure 7-8 friends over with beer and food to help me lift the box and put it on the trailer.
