I am getting closer everyday to finishing my tear and now I am wondering if anyone has ever suffocated in one of these? I can see that
mine is going to be pretty air tight and was wondering if it wouldnt be a bad idea to install some type of alarm just in case of high Co2 levels or if all the vents and windows are left closed while sleeping or am I worrying about nothing? Thanks ! Aaron

You have very good instincts. You should always keep a window cracked and a sensor is a good idea. No sense in making the Darwin Awards. 8)

By all means...leave some sort of ventilation open....in that confined space, you'll find that the outgassing from a foam mattress or even the finish after a year will still be evident....think smart!!! Doug

Do any of you install a vent that cant be closed just in case one forgets to open one? I am thinking of one of those small round louvered vents that would let some ventilation just in case. maybe one near the ceilng and one near the floor. With my luck I would forget to open a vent before passing out. (camping is about the only time I drink) Thanks! Aaron

 I would definitely put in a permanent vent for that. Get two things your not used to doing and you just might be in trouble.

Joanne put some small vents using the cap type covers used on boats. They look good. You need something that won't let water pour in if it rains really hard.

How about cracking a window, before you crack a cool one? Doug

Aaron, I don't think the carbon monoxide detectors will work for carbon dioxide. I'd just pop the roof vent open when you get to your camping spot.

That's what we do. the roof vent is always open at least a little bit. Usually one or both of the side windows are cracked open some too.
