I have been planning on building a tongue box on my trailer. I was a Lowes the other night & found this for $30. It is the exact size I was going to build. It is big enough to hold my 2 deep cycle batteries & room to spare.

Even though it is pretty rigid, I will build a frame out of angle iron to support it. I'm going to put a thin rubber seal around the top edge, add a couple small draw latches to the front & cut a slot in the front pocket for my power cutoff switch.

If I drill some drain hole in the bottom, do I need to vent it?

i like that, i was going to get a diamond plate tongue box from TSC but i may lke that better. 30 bucks vs 280 bucks, works for me. it also looks like there are can or cup holders in the top. is that what that is. really cool.

I have the same box in the camper shell of my little pickup. Think I got it at WalMart for around $20 last year. You may wanna check with them, might get it cheaper'n $30

Hey, thanks for the head's up on that box. I'm going to have to make a run over to the local Lowes and see if they have one. I might just upgrade my battery box to a real tongue box. Even though I only have one battery, I could put a few other items in there.

Thanks!

In looking at that box, it appears that you could cut some pieces of diamond plate to "wrap" or "veneer" the box. Use some 3/4 aluminum angle and rivets in the corners to tie it together. It might look pretty sharp.

Hey Rainjer,

I made mine out of 7/16" OSB and recessed it into my frame on the tongue. I was able to get two GR> 27 Deep Cycle Batteries, the charger and an inverter into it. Check my album the forward compartment houses the charger and inverter. And I have space left over beside the batteries for extention cords and light strings.

Joanne, if you want diamond plate why don't you just get a diamond plate toolbox? That's what we did. I think we found it at Lowes.

I am also in the market for a tongue box. One thing I want to put in is the propane tank. Any issues with storing a propane tank in a black box when the temperature is 100+? :cigar:

Thanks!
