Installing roof vent

I'm getting ready for my roof vent installation. There is not a flat spot on my roof. It's pretty close, but it's not completely flat. Am I going to need to build up my frame out for the vent, so it is rounded a little bit to match the sides? When I put a straight edge from side to side, the frame out for the vent is about a quarter inch lower than the sides. Thanks for your suggestions.

Darrell...I'd think depending on whose vent you have, that 1/4" can be taken out between the gasket and some flex in the housing, thinking that it may be a Fantastic Fan...I know I can get that much out of it..I softened the profile on the trailer for 2 so I didn't have a flat spot as designed and the fan fit fine.

Thanks Doug, Yes, it is a fantastic fan. I was hoping that I could work out that quarter inch but, I didn't want to end up with a valley around the vent.

Is your roof on yet. If the sides are higher than the middle where the fan goes and it is not too late, you should build it up. Pictures help.

Miriam, I don't have any of the exterior skin on yet. I'm going to try and insert the only photo that I have. It doesn't really show that much......... I couldn't figure out how to insert a photo so I added a photo of the vent to my album for you to see.

Darrell...if you are worried about it making the curve...skin the top and frame it out for the fan and trial fit it in...at that point you could make a shim plate if necessary...Doug

I don't see a problem. When you skin the roof the skin will follow the roof line---unless your spars framing the vent are bowed. Check that first. At most you can make a sliver to go over the framing that is shaped as the roof. Glue it down. Your roof will then carry the same curve as the side.

That will cause you to put a bend in your fan framing though.
