OK guys i am going to start build #2 very soon. this one will go a lot slower. but here are the first few things. i am having a trailer custom made for a 6 X 10 (with wheels inset). And i am going to lay a plywood floor and then cover it with a hardwood. so what are the recomendations. Make my own plankes, pergo, tongue and groove. should i glue it to the ply or let it float. i do not want any seems. any ideas on designs, i am thinking about using some dark and light pieces to accent the layout. but would really like some design ideas. as always and again thanks to everyone on here for the great help and suggestions.

If you want wood flooring, use the real thing, pergo may be lighter and cheaper, but I have seen plenty of pergo go bad in homes, couldnt' imagine how it would hold up in a teardrop. If you were to use real hardwood, you could get away with using 3/8 ply as a subfloor and then hardwood ontop to stiffen it up.

Tounge and groove you can nail down the slats so the nails are hidden in the tounge of the boards and would look great.

Depends on the length of the hardwood (no fake stuff). If you are using short pieces to make a pattern you will need a thicker subfloor. If you are using longer pieces to span the width or length you may not need a sub-floor or a minimal sub-floor. Tongue and groove on a porch doesn't have a sub-floor.

Edge glued may move too much for this application so I would go with tongue and groove.

If you're gonna lay ply down on the frame anyway, you need the thinnest and lighest finish wood for weight, which may or may not mean Pergo. Otherwise, you're gonna wanna use 1 by planks--HEAVY.

But, why, oh WHY do you think you need a finished wood floor in a 6 by 10?

Yeah, I've heard all of this crap before about building it the way you want it, but what's the point, and what's the end game here?

Do you HAVE to have the plank look?

If so, ply subfloor, and parquet wood TILES. They're light.

basically cause i am going to have some extra floor space and i want it to be a show piece when i am done. no i dont have to but i want to. when done i want someone who is interested to look inside and go WOW you built this. if i dont sell the shark shack in time then iwill give it to my son for he and his buddies. if i do sell it then more money for the shark shack two. nothing personal here but i have nothing better to do with my time other than build and do it the way i want. you can see in the pic the extra floor space that i want laid in hardwood floor.

Lynn, your floor is really cool. The different colors together look great. But, you can't insert images that way on this board. Maybe change to a url instead of img
