I haven't gotten that far yet, but a lot of people on the forum use Knox foam. Did you do a search?

I've also heard the Knox Foam (I looked, and WOW, they're kinda spendy, but hey, comfort cost money)...however, I also heard someone bought 3-4 queen "toppers" at Wal-Mart, 3M spray glued them together, cut to fit and had a really comfy "mattress" for like less than $100. :applause:

That's the ticket for me.

And I think all you need is 3.

We got our mattress from Know Foam. We also ordered the zippered slip covers at the same time. They fit like a glove. I can't remember the details right now but the material we selected for the covers is waterproof and keeps the foam dry. This worked perfectly when we had a leak on our first trip. We just took the covers off and tossed them in the dryer and all was well. It is more expensive but I highly recommend them.

I have bought both Knox foam and foam from an upholestry shop. The Knox was very nice especially with the cover, but a little pricy. The shop foam is just as nice, cut to size, 4" thick and I got a cheap plastic mattress cover from Kmart. Put the mattress cover on the bottom of the foam so if there is a leak the mattress will not soak up water. Mattress was a little over $100.

I just ordered our mattress from Verlo Mattress. Because of the folding couch inside I needed it to be in 3 pieces. The cost for all 3 is $407. 5" high density foam, quilted top, generally just a regular mattress because that is what they do. The sample looked very nice and I guess the test will be when we get it next week. I will post the final opinion in a few weeks.

What do you place under the foam to stop it from rotting, due to lack of ventilation?

I've heard that a polystyrene sheet will do the job. Is this right? If so, then I guess that under floor insulation is not necessary?

Futton questions

Silly me. I have never slept on a futon. How do they compair to regular mattress, foam, canvas tarp on rocky ground? Those from that futon place look interesting. Could even be a good excuse to build a frame for in the house and have to get more tools. Isn't that why we really do many of these projects? To get more tools.
