scratch removal and polishing

Last August, BILLYL had a piece on removing scratches from aluminum.
He mentioned using a buffing compound mixed with mineral spirits but first, using progressive grits of sandpaper to remove scratches. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Do you use waterproof sandpaper and wet sand the aluminum, or do you dry sand? Also, would an electric sander work on this . My aluminum was scratched when I bought ity from a trailer repair shop (didn't know it at the time) and while stored at a buddys house, got further scuffed up. If BILLYL reads this, can you contact me about this? Thanks, Rod

Just my personal opinion, but I would recommend that you use wet/dry sandpaper with lots of water.
