I have some scraped aluminum also with some minor scratches. I've tried just about everything in the shop and here's what I came up with to remove those minor scrapes and nasty spots on your aluminum.
First, clean the area with mineral spirits and buff until dry.
Second, use 0000 steel wool and wet the pad with mineral spirits.
Third: GENTLY and I mean GENTLE pressure on the pad, rub the affected area with the wet steel wool until the spot has been removed. "Fan" or blend out the area a little on each side.
Fourth: Clean the area again with mineral spirits and buff out until dry.
Last: Use the furniture polish PLEDGE to finally clean and protect the area. Pledge also removes any nasty grime and finger prints and helps keep a wax coat on the aluminum.
You might want to use some rubber gloves, the aluminum oxide is black and nasty.

I use Pledge on my tear too. Pledge is to me like Windex is to the Dad on My Big Fat Greek Wedding. I use it to clean all kinds of stuff.

Jack, you shouldn't use steel wool on aluminum. Scotch Brite is preferred.

Hmmm... I've been using Brillo Soap Pads... wet to clean chrome AND aluminum for years. Never had a problem? So what don't I know? :o
