I have changed my plans and I am going to get the harbor fright 4x8 trailer and build a 5x8 tear on her. The store by me does not carry the 5x8 trailer and the 4x8's are on sale! Do you have to move the axle / wheals back or can you leave it where they are and how?
Thanks!
Jason

While moving the axle back is not strictly needed, there are very valid reasons for doing so...if left in the stock position, trailer balance will become much more critical and somewhat harder to achieve and of course there is the door/fender clearance issues...you don't havta move it back but you really should, if nothing else but aesthetics....

Thanks madjack! Is it difficult to move the axle back ? I don't have access to a welder so if I need to re-weld it I guess I am out of luck.

Km, it is all bolted up...you will have to drill a few holes to change where the spring hangers hang and that is about it...the "Generic Benroy" plans cover this topic for a "RedTrailer" but the instructions apply to the HF trailer as well...I believe that the topic is also covered in a couple of "sdtripper2"s indexes.......

Jason, if I could do it--anyone can.

Like Jack said, it's just a matter of not using the pre-drilled holes for the spring hangers but instead, drilling new ones.
