Galley Hatch Has Marine Urethane Varnish

Postby Classic Finn » Fri May 25, 2007 12:53 pm

Well got down to work again after rain and cloudy days...I got to applying Marine Varnish... onto the Inner Hatch.. spending time sanding and more sanding sure paid off and removal of excess glue in places... ;) ;)

Im glad I didnt stain.. since I would of made a big mistake now that I see the natural grains appear from the Finnish Marine Ply.. and this is just with a single coat... ;) 8) There are some Pine also used from the Finnish forests...The ends - top and bottom of the hatch are made of urpean oak.

Here are just a couple of photos for you...

Im not a pro photographer so the white spots are reflections from the lighting in places... :D as well as places were the varnish has soaked in real well..

Thats all on the update from Under the Arctic Skies Shop..Finland..

The inside of your hatch looks very nice. I was so happy that my hatch fit on the first try that I left the inside alone. I didn't want to tempt fate.

Thank You asianflava...

This one fits very nicely finally... ;)
I will leave the inside of this the natural color.. just apply another coat or 2 with light sanding in between then I,ll consider it done...

I have an idea of using a couple of the inside
spaces for flat items of sorts or towels by adding a little hatch cover to both sides with a section of piano hinge to open and close them.. In otherwards a couple of small storage spaces inside ...

Neat Work, Heikki

Postby Guy » Thu May 31, 2007 6:43 pm

Dear Heikki,

Looking great, Heikki.

I am about to redo mine so I understand the temptation to go HALF WOODY.
Regards,

Guy

Hi Heikki,
You hatch is looking beautifuuuuuuuuuuul!!! I can see why you would be tempted to make it part woodie.
You may start with the only teardrop in Finnland, but you are setting a high mark for anyone who wants to copy you.
