I tied to use an air mattress in the TD this past weekend...didn't much care for the feel of it; so I'm going to go w/ a foam or boxspring mattress...what do most do w/ regard to the size of the bed... wall to wall, or allow and inch or so on each side for the covers to "tuck down into"...

Keith;
A friend of mine gave me a nice futon mattress. It has foam and padding over an inner coil spring. It was a full sized mattress54" X 78"... so I had to take it apart to narrow it. Rather than resize the mattress cov er that I took off it, I bought a nice set of sheets and stiched a new cover for it. The project turned out really nice.
I built my TD interior 46.5" X 78" long, that's the length of a full or queen-size mattress. My mattress takes up the entire floor...works for me but not a lot to spare, I'm 5'11"

Cool.. thanks guys... I just ordered a 57x80 Latex foam mattress ($120 w/ cover) from a local mattress manufactuer... I left a 1/4" gap around the sides and there will be about 8" at the foot of the bed; just enough to put shoes or something. Said it'll be built in about 2-3 days so I'll be set for comfy sleepin at Minden
Originally I was going to go w/ Aluminum exterior, so my TD's exterior diminsion is 60".. but I decided to paint in the end.. shucks.. I could have gotten a regular 'ole queen mattress had I known... oh well... let's just say it's "custom"..that sounds better.

Ours is pretty much close to the same size. The foam mattress will compress a bit. As for tucking the sheets, all you have to do is pull up on a corner and tuck it in.
I wouldn't go with a spring mattress because it might get messed up when you fold it half to get it in the door.
