Hello all, I'm thinking about an icebox. Any one got plans for one or a source to get one? I checked out Joseph's ice box. I think that's what I want to do. I have sheet metal working skills, just need a starting point. Size? Shelves? Layout? Etc? :!: Thanx, Steve

Hey Steve,
As for size, figure out how big a space you have for it in your galley. Then subtract 2" all around for insulation and that's the size box you need. I wish mine were a little taller but since it was "prefabbed" it's what I had to work with.
As for interior layout, just like my regular cooler I don't have any shelves or the like. Just a box full of ice and plastic containers.

Steve,
If you do a photo essay on that I may build one too!

Sorry Mike! I just picked up an Extreme Cooler. I think I'll put it on a drawer slide in the galley. Saw the idea on
Mike Spicer's site.I'll probably adapt his water system idea as well. I'm getting antsy to get out in it! Roof stripping is progressing at 6 inches per hour! Don't want to rush it, so I'll make things simpler where I can.
Thanks for the interest!
Steve

Got the box installed today. If you go to my
page the pictures are numbers 94 through 107 - almost all the way to the bottom. Since someone asked, the galvanized box is 12" x 12" x 15" deep.

Joseph, The galley looks nice-n-neat! I like the simple counter. What are you using to pump water for the faucet? I'm debating on the pump for mine, electric or hand...thinking about a hand pump, to keep it simple.
Nice job!

Hey Steve,
The faucet is a hand pump.

Joseph,
Very nice galley. Looks like you have a good size work counter. Do you have a space for a battery or do you use shore power? Looks great.

Thanks Ross. I won't be using shore power of any kind - under the counter on the right is where the battery goes. I have an old truck battery that I'm using to test the system but it won't do for the long haul. I haven't quite decided between the Interstate and the Optima marine batteries, but both are available at Costco. Since my maximum amp usage with all three lights on and the fan on high is about eight amps (and normal max with the fan on low and one lamp on will be around two amps for an hour or so) I'll probably go with the cheaper Interstate.

Lexel. I like the fact that it comes in clear so it's not so intrusive like white sealants.

Ross
What is Lexel exactly?
Also, if I have a local HVAC place fab up a box, what material is it they use? Sheetmetal? I am guessing its food-safe, right?

Am I the only one that can't get to the pics? I can sign in using my yahoo id, but then it gives me a new page option..
Or, do I need another yahoo id for pictures?
