Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Has anyone covered their bottom (the floor of the trailer you bunch of wise guys! ) like this?

I was wondering about covering the underside of the wooden floor with sheet metal and then coating that in Herculiner (http://www.herculiner.com/).

I'm wondering if that would be a more durable undercoating than just the roofing tar. I'm thinking it'd only add a few pounds to the overall weight.

Thoughts?

use roof coating. $7/gallon, one can should do it, throw away the brush... you're done.

i plan on using something similar for my frame but im just going to use a standard wood sealer for the wood bottom

...do what Arne sez...bestest/cheapest method...if you want to use the bedliner, spray it directly on the wood, the sheetmetal pan, unless you are real lucky will become a trap to hold water against the wood and severely intorducie/promote rot in the floor..........

Does roof tar smell when the weather warms up? Or, does it get sticky and drip? I know a lot of people use it and I can't recall reading about any problems with it. Just double-checking.

Kris, what you are actually looking for is a product called "asphalt emulsion"...it is thinner than regular roofing tar and doesn't have the fibers init...we use about 6 coats(thinned and sprayed) of MinWax ClearShield...an outdoor rated polyurethane...instead of the emulsion....

I dont know if anyone other than me has tried the spray on bedliner from NAPA, I used it on my frame,inside my tounge box,inside my feners and under the floor, It took two cans to spray the underside of my floor and cost about $12 a can. It sprays on very nice and leaves a thick rubber textured suface,it never totaly hardens meaning it has a rubbery feel to it after it cures but it wont smear like roofing products and adheres very well. They sell it in a gallon can but I couldnt find my bedliner gun.
I think this type of stuff will work better than anything unless you want to spend the money for Rhino liner or similar.
I sprayed the same stuff in my pickup bed about six years ago and its still there. The stuff I used is "Martin Senour Premium Rubber Undercoating 4500" It even filled the voids in the plywood so water cant get in.

My nephew has a Line-X booth and sprayed my tear and tongue box bottom as well as the wooden fender wells. That was 4 years ago and it's holding up well. Added more weight than I wanted, but I couldn't beat the price.........zero? My next tear has a simple coat of asphalt emulsion, roofing patch material and works just a well. but cost more......a few bucks..

I thought Id chime in on the coating thread.. here I used the following ply named Wisa Transport..or Wisa Multifloor. no need for the extra painted materials for surface protection.
Im just not sure its available there, however maybe bigger ply dealers may have the product..as Finland does export this ply to the States .

The edges are also pretreated..

Also I noticed some of the Caravans use the same ..this same is used for vans, utility trailers, truck trailers and so on.. multiple uses..here is what it looks like.

As Heikki says, this one is the standard floor for utility and work trailers in Yurp:



They're phenolic layers on the outside and they're tough enough to withstand serious abuse.

I've not seen the fancier 'treadplate' and 'raindrop' versions before.

Heikke, that flooring is really neat-looking. I haven't seen any yet in our area but I bet it would work beautifully on a teardrop.
