Benroy McFull's New Roof

Benroy Mc Full was constructed in a thrash to make the initial ITG. One of the things done to save time, and money, was to use a melamine galley shelf. I wasn't about to spend $60 dollars for a sheet of formica and throw away three quarters of it! Results as follows:

We developed a leak in the passenger rear corner, which I attributed to the joint opening, due to the pressure from the melamine. So a new shelf was laminated. (With $20 builder surplus formica)

Looked good, but at the next gathering the leak was still there. The corner needed to be opened for inspection, but I had no inside space, until this showed up in a Harbor Freight flyer.

Then the extent of damage could be revealed

Then started another thrash, to get ready for Tearing Up the Adirondacks. Two new stringers, with doubler plates at the sides, and a new half sheet of masonite

No shots of the Henry's 663 and aluminum going on, as I learned last time that that stickum and cameras DO mix

Two weeks and 4000 miles later, after several downpours, and two half-day pulls in the rain, we're still dry. One of the unforseen consequences, was that replacing a roof shortens all your wires by three inches, so part of the trip was without DC lighting, and the AC is still unavailable!

It is nice to see that with all that damage it was fixed successfully. Must have been heartbreaking.
