I put two coats of oil base paint on the bottom. Was thinking of the pickup truck bedliner coating to use on the top, for a non skid surface. This is the idea of dual usage flatbed/ rv trailer. Questions is, one coating says it is usable on wood. Another brand, at half price bedliner coating states metal and nothing else? Do u think the cheap one will adheare as well as the $$ one. Wondering if either could effect the glue used in the CDX plywood for deck too? Let me have it all LOL.

I used Herculiner on the decking of my utility trailer. One gallon coated both sides and all edges. I removed the decking and applied two coats of the material (one coat/day). After it had cured I bolted the decking back onto the trailer and applled a third coat to the top surface, encapsulating the bolt heads.

The decking is just 0.5" plywood from the local big box store.

The trailer stays out in the weather full time. Three years later the frame is getting a bit rusty. The decking is almost pristine. There is one exposed area where something large and heavy hit edge first and delaminated a small section of the top ply, otherwise the the wooden surfaces are not exposed.

I failed to remember to scuff up the surface of the heads of the carriage bolts before applying the third coat of Herculiner, so about half of them have been exposed over the course of the years from things being dragged across the trailer's deck.

If you use Herculiner: it cures upon exposure to air, it doesn't dry. Use the foam rollers supplied in the kit, nothing else. I found I could wrap the used roller in plastic food wrap and toss it and the roller frame into the freezer after each application, so three days of applying Herculiner only used one roller cover.


Oh, the stuff is interesting to get off your skin if any gets there.

Ira, first use is to be a flatbed. Thanks for the fast reply Hamilton, not sure what brand it was for the bedliner coating. Will go find out and try checking on the internet from the company. My luck, 2 quarts will be two feet to short, when all done.
