Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Hi!

I would like thank you for the great website. I have been reading all the back posts for a few weeks now and there's a LOT of info in here.
I am planning on building a generic Benroy. I really like that style and it looks pretty simple to constuct and modify(yeah, I'll see about that when I get started lol). I intend to extend the Benroy to 10 ft. which I don't see any problems in doing so. Has anyone done this and where did you locate the axle? The current 8 ft. plans call for 33 in. from rear.

Also, in my ramblings on the internet in search of TD info, I haven't seen anyone put a hot water heater and a outside shower in one. Has anyone here done this?

Welcome Ken, If you don't care to layout your Benroy profile full size layouts in several profiles are available for a nominal fee. You could be the first to install a hot shower in a teardrop. Danny

Hi Ken, I built my first TD a few months ago and got alot of advice around here.
You can do anything you want to your TD, I will be putting a water heater in mine soon, it will also be part of a heating system for the cabin of my TD. I am going to pump hot water through a automotive heater coil and use a small fan to move air through it.
I found a very small propane water heater that measures 11"X 11"X 16" deep.
There are several threads here about exterior showers in the index and list above.

Hi Ken welcome to the fun, one thing that will help you in your build is the search button at the top of the page. If you can’t find the answer post the question then someone will help. Andrew did a spreadsheet for computing axle placement .

One of the rules of thumb we use is 34 1/2" for the first 8'. Add 6" for every foot after that.

That would put your axle at 46 1/2" from the rear.

Then adjust the location by calculating your tongue weight using Andrew's spreadsheets... the ones that dhazard just told you about.

I'm very happy with it.

Thanks for all the great info! NOW I see the little search button at the top of the page! LOL That should help me a lot. You'll have some awesome looking TDs. Hope mine ends up looking half as good.

Welcome... and definitely put October 26th weekend on your calendar... teardrop or not! The biggest bash in the South Central area... for MadJack's birthday party!!! We only need 12 more folks and teardroppers will have the whole loop !!!! Either bring a tent, rent a camper, anything.... or drive up for the day, stay at a cabin --- come see me !!!
