Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

So, I'm thinking about insulating or not - I'm curious as to how much it's needed. When you compare even the lightest walled teardrop to a basic tent, the blocking of air will insulate you pretty well. People who have uninsulated tears - how cold do you camp? And insulated?

Personally, I'm happy camping in a canvas tent down to about 0 F, with a good sleeping bag. My wife, however, has lower blood pressure and sleeps with an electric blanket 50% of the year; if I'm building the tear, it's partly to get her out camping with me more.

Remember that insulation is NOT just for cold. It helps with the heat and it really helps with sound deadening.

The consensus (if there is such a thing in TD building ) seems, ahh I said "seems", to be Roof and Floor insulation is "essential." Walls optional.

Given your wife's preferences for electric blankets, I'd say "wrap the TD up tight." Of course you can wire the TD with 120vac and take the blanket with you

Ahh..... but there is one faction that says that the mattress is insulation enough, thereby making floor insulation not necessary.

Me, I insualted the whole thing. Even my cabinets are insulated, it just happened that way because of the construction methods I used.

Insulated mine for sound and to keep the heat/cold out. My blood presure drops when I sleep and I get cold real easy. Mike gets hot real easy so he will have the air conditioner and I will have a goretex lined quilt.

I would at least put insulation in the top...

Tongue in cheek kidding, because I can SWEAR that my $100 stereo in there sounds like a $5,000 unit because of the insulation's effect on sound.

I insulated mine to help with the A/C mostly I can bundle up with blankets but I hate sleeping hot

seems like without insulation you'd be inside of a drum

Dear Nikwax,

Go for the insulation. The sound insulation makes for a great nights sleep and as has been said do not discount the temperature leveling in both directions.

Also one of the great things the sound insulation does not block out is the pounding of the ocean on the "Lost Coast"

However it does block out Dean and Joannie nearly burning down the Kitchen at Pamplin Grove

me and ol moneybags went to this gathering early this year and everybody complained bout the cold.I though we would be cold that night in the mountains with no heat and being right on the river but the insulation worked better than I expeceted.After bout 2 hrs inside the tear we had to open the door to let out body heat and it was cold enough to see your breath.I cant wait till this winter to see how little itll take to heat it.I vote put in all the insulation you can.It dont cost much but it shure can help with being comfortable.I have 2x2 frame with 1 1/2 in foamboard all the way around
