I have a swing down jack on the tounge and it is a too long to tilt down when hooked to my hitch on my truck. I cant lift the tounge up by hand cause I am a sissy so I have to get help to unhook it from the truck,
I welded the jack on and realy dont want to cut it of to move it and I dont want to raise the hitch cause my tear rides level with my truck as it is.
Anyone have a simple solution ? This is the only pic I have, the jack is on the other side ,

Don't want to raise the hitch
Jack's too long and you don't want to remove the jack
Can't lift it by hand
You've eliminated all the 'easy fixes' and I think we're left with parking over a hole in the ground where the jack WILL fit so you can use what you have without modifying anything
I would bolt or weld a new vertical jack in the hole on your coupler which was meant for a tongue jack - They don't tilt and they are much shorter so they would suit your needs perfectly
That is in fact te route I went

That jack is mounted too low. If you want to use it you have to move it up.

I can't tell which length jack that is from the pic but I know they do make several lengths. If that isn't the shortest one you can remove the c-clip and replace it with the short one.
You may have to do a little searching to find a short one.

Ok, question, how much too long?
You can always take the foot off and if that isn't enough can you cut it away from the bottom?

Hi,
I have the same problem...
My jack has a wheel on it, so it is much easier to give a good tug on the handle, and allow the wheel to help the jack stand upright and click into position.
But I've also had the trouble of not being able to lower the front of the trailer enough, and so carry a small shovel...
The only good solution (for me) is to grind off the welds and re-weld the jack a bit higher.

I guess I will have to listen to Miriam and cut the bottom off. I bought the shortest jack I could find and welded it as high as I could on the frame. I will have to cut the outer tube with a big pipe cutter and shorten the inside tube as well then weld the foot back on. I only need a couple inches shorter.
I was hoping one of the "Old Timers" (no offence old timers) hanging out here would have a special trick or two!
Thanks ! Aaron (almost an old timer)

I got a trick for ya young whippersnapper (no offence young whippersnappers)..... carry a 4X4 cut at an angle on one end and drive one of the back wheels of your tow vehicle onto it when you want to unhitch.

It should have a c clip holding it on take it off and take it to a welding shop and have them plasma cut the flange off and then reweld it where it will work. I do it all the time here in Phoenix cause alot of our tears are behind streetrods and the tears are low to match.

Hell, I just bring a small hyd jack with me to jack it up high enough to get my wheel under it. Just jack up the front of the tear, lower the tongue jack and your set. Now that is simple beings how you have the hyd jack with you already in the truck.

two ideas come to mind. 1st suggestion is to carry two wooden wedges. Placed under the rear whells of tow vehicle. Back up on wedges to raise back bumper and toungue of trailer.
2nd idea, open hatch on trailer and have partner lean on rear of trailer to counter balance weight of trailer to lighten tongue after unlatching the hitch

Mount a shorter jack on the other side.
