Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Is there such a thing as UV resistant paint or polyurathane? I live in sunbelt and have to shelter (ie garage) for a tear drop and would want something that can withstand the sun and wind. Joanne you got any tips for coverings?

Most probably a good quality automotive paint. The current "basecoat/clearcoat" auto paints hold up very well for many years. A paint job is no better than what is under it though. A tear sealed with epoxy resin, then use a compatible primer for the paint is a good way to go. Of course, this is not the cheapest way to go... but, it is the best technology we have today.

If I go with a woodie design can I epoxie it and leave as is?

If you are dooing a woodie,the epoxy is not UV protected, you can cover the epoxy with Spar varnish or automotive clear coat. If you look at what wooden canoes and kayak builders use for their craft you can get a good I dea of what to use.

Remember Spar varnish oor other outdoor finishes have to be redone every couple of years, but automotive clearcoat goes at least 10 years before having to be redone.

Where would I find Automotive clear coat? Would I have to take it to a car painter?

I know This is way before my build but I'm just trying to figure out how muche $$$ I need to start saving.

You can get clear coat at any paint store that carries automotive paint. You do not have to take to a car painter if you know somebody who has a sprayer and a place to spray it, though an automotive spayer may give you a good deal on spraying the clearcoat. you may be able to brush on the clearcoat, I do not know. You might be able to rent a paint booth and do it yourself - if there is a military base you can look to see if they have a booth and will let you use it.

Does anyone know how much epoxy and glass a 4X8 or a 5X8 would take?
I know everyone is diffrent but I was just wondering

Mandy... The best place I have found to buy auto paint is:

They even beat most local "wholesale/trade" bodyshop suppliers! I have bought a lot of paint from them. As for spraying it yourself... It's not all that hard to do. Yes, there is a learning curve... but that is true with most any skill. Just practice on some unimportand stuff first. Yes you can do it... and boo boos can be fixed too.

I don't have to stick to clear coat; I can paint it any color?
Woo Hoo. Time to consult the color wheel.
