How thick are your galley doors?

How thick are the ribbs of your galley, mine currently are drawn up to be 2'' and I'm not sure if that is enough or should I go bigger. My problem is if I go bigger then I lose out on galley space.

Mine are 2" (sort of) there are some jiggy places where they are bigger or smaller. :D

Can't imagine them bigger..

2"s should be adequate...I reccomend then in the horizontal as opposed to vertical...helps alleviate the dreaded springback...

MJ,

don't you have that backwards????

You want to run them vertical(top to Bottom) not horizontal(Side to side)
Though I should of asked first what are you using for your ribs?
I would not suggest using barbeques sauce though

I presume you are talking about your hatch. I have two main ribs, one on each side, that is almost 4" wide. Then I have spars going from side to side that are 1x2s

Hi Mike, I have built 2 tears, one with laminated 2", 3/4 pine, bandsawed vertical members, which are plenty solid and no springback at all. The other is super-lightweight, just 1/2 inch baltic birch plywood, bandsawn, 1 1/4 at top and bottom, but thicker in the middle. If I were to build again, I would double the 1/2 inch baltic birch, I think it looks nice and is super strong.

Roly......I believe vertical members will result in less (if no) springback

Thank you for that info, I'm going to stick with 2'' it works with our layout.
