Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Is it o.k. to have my door flush to the floor? Not totally flush, I do know about the 3/8'' extra to leave for the molding.

My floor (in blue) will be acting as a wall and the t-molding should keep everything water proof and secure.

Its just that I've seen the majority of you guys tts to have at least a 3'' or more wall above the floor and below the door. My wife doesn't want anything to get in the way getting in and out of the TT when the bed isn't in use, like when we have the interior table up.

What do you think should this be a problem?

One consideration is when sitting in the doorway, like when you're putting your shoes on for instance, is the mattress high enough above the trim so it's not digging into your thigh. Having it low enough not to trip over is good for when the mattress is not in use.

Well if you se the purple line going through the door, well that's my mattress well above the trim. And since my door is currently sitting on the floor I have no trim to get in the way.

I recommend at least 1" of opening above the floor. That leaves you enough space for any molding that you'll probably add later on - it just leaves enough room for anything unexpected

Wouldn't that just be asking to get snagged and ripped off or broken in shards just to slice you and remind you that you shouldn't have put it there in the first place.

You won't even know the 1" is there with your mattress. I have 3 1/2" and barely feel it when I sit in the doorway.

I'm not worried about he mattress, that's not the problem it's with out a mattress. We have a footwell that converts into a table when our mattress is gone, so getting in and out of the teardrop with a 1'' ledge would be a problem. I think I going with the door going to floor without a ledge.

General rule of thumb is to have the threshold half the height of the mattress.
