Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

On the Federal Lighting Equipment Location Requirements it states any vehicle 80'' or wider needs rear clearance lamp at widest point - symmetrical - on the rear or near the rear - facing rearward.

Is this measurment taken from hub to hub? or outside fender to fender? or trailer shell width.

Because with my fenders I will be wider then 80''. Does that mean I have to put lights on my fenders.

...technically YES you will...the 80"s is measired at the widest point...that includes lights, fenders, wheel/tires, bolt heads and/or protrusions of any sort...you will also need a triple light(red, in the rear, as high as practical(centered) and marker lights in the front, symetrical and as high as practical........

80 inches or wider means simply that....

If any portion exceeds 80 inches you need clearance lights at widest point...

For these little trailers they generally don't give you much grief and in a lot of states as long as you've got lites they're happy.
In PA this is what you need to get it registered if you are over 80".

The ones on the fenders aren't required but are a good idea. Mine are turn signals tho.
