Bending Radius

Postby reh1966 » Fri Jan 07, 2005 8:27 am

Could any of you with experience tell me if 1/8" luaun will bend around an 18" radius lengthwise without breaking. I do believe that I could bend it with the grain without any problems but that would require more cutting and joints. Thanks.

I bent 1/4" luan around a 20 inch radius. I had to run the grain perpendicular to the side walls however. It was easy with straps and clamps. I also got the wood damp prior to bending to make it easier and lessen the chance of breaking. You might want to try pre bending it with straps to pre stress it to ease the application. I found the some times luan has voids and the don"t show up until you are almost finished bending and glueing then the void cracks and you have to start over with glue every where :x
