It Begins

Well, the frame is complete, the floor constructed and undercoated. Waiting for the undercoating to cure before I flip the floor over and bolt it down. Here is the next picture. (Please forgive the messy garage). The cars have been exiled to the driveway for the duration of the build so clutter tends to pile up.

I did some looking today for 1/8 inch birch ply and found nothing aside from dumb looks from DIY store clerks. Will 1/4 inch work for a Generic Benroy profile for the roof? I am wondering if it will make the bend. I know I can order 1/8 inch but the freight on a few sheets of plywood is astronomical.

Clutter? You call that clutter? That wouldn't even get you in as a finalist in the "out-of-control" shop contest.

Many folks have used 1/4 with success--it is just a bit harder to bend. Not a problem if you bend on the short side, and take your time. But don't plan on bending on a tight radius. Unless you use some method of heating, wetting, steaming, kerfing--tight radii are out. Check with some cabinet shops for the 1/8 inch. If they don't stock it, they might be willing to order it.

Good luck with your build and welcome to the madness.

I wish i had clutter like that!!!!

Lets go campin! Looking good. I used 5.4mm which is about 3/16". My BenRoy is 5' wide but I didn't have any problems bending the ply. I actualy used "Moistier resistant Luan". Half of the sheets that I bought were very bendy, almost like rubber.

Looks good so far, have fun building it

That garage is clean by most of our standards around here! You are off to a nice start so far. One thing you will notice, the asphalt emulsion will ALWAYS be sticky even two months later. I was constantly rubbing up against my treated parts of my floor and getting it all over me.

Keep up the good work!

I'm in the same boat as you. I couldn't find 1/8" anything at the box stores or the local lumber yard. I bought some 5.2mm moisture resistant luan and am going to try that. They have it at the box stores and it was cheap, like 10 dollars for a 4x8 sheet. It seems to be real bendy. I am at the same point of the build as you, I just coated the bottom of my floor.

Ooooooooooooooooohhh.....

Undercoating on floor. And frame.

Sorry, but I'm getting excited by all of this.

Yet again.
