Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I'm still in the planing phase of the TD and one thing that I need more info on is how to do the framing for the side wall. I have seen plenty of profiles but I want to how you all frame your walls; you know to make the insulation sandwich walls. Any pics of your framing is much appreciated.

Check out any of my build journals! I've done five, all with sandwich walls.
I use 1/4" ply on each side of a 1-by- frame, with foam board insulation.
You could easily use 1/8" ply to save weight. 1/8" is harder to find, and usually more expensive than 1/4", unless you use luan door skins.

Here is a pic of my wall framing. I used 3/4" birch ply for the walls and the same for the wall framing. I cut the sides first and glued and screwed the framing in place. 3/4" foam insulation and then the 1/4" oak ply inside. This is not the way to build a lightweight tear but I am a home builder and just can't make myself build any way but the strongest possible. I will also be towing with a full size Chevy pickup so the weight isn't my first concern. On my next tear (haven't even finished the first one yet) I may go lighter. More pix in my album.

That's just the way I framed mine... I certainly can't argue with the way Steve Frederick builds his beautiful tears.

Mine was a mix of the above with some kerfing on the curves. Micro and I both did ours that way.



This is the curved corner with kerfing.


I used the sides as a pattern for the framing. Made it so much easier. Just gotta remember to use wax paper under glued joints.
