What would you have built or done differently on your TD?

We're still on our first one & not completely finished. So far I am generally very happy. The only thing I've noticed so far is with the inside cabinets: I saw one where the door lifted up compared to ours that open out. It would make the biggest difference when I'm trying to get something out of the cabinet when I'm not completely inside the tear.
If you do a search (top of page) you will find this question has been asked before that will give you added info besides what responses you get here.
I picked our profile because I like it, but we made it so the counter top pulls out. Other wise it tends to be called a shin buster.
Ours is 4ft wide, which is fine for us. Should my husband ever build another one, he would be apt to build it just a little wider ( like 4 1/2 ft) so he could see it better in his rear view mirror.
It's good you have time to think about what you want to build.
Otherwise you could be like the rest of us who hurry to get started, change our minds & take 3 steps backwards.

Our son who is in the Air Force & works on the B1 bomber got back a month ago from a 6 month deployment in the "sandbox". It made me more appreciative of all our deployed military over there.

I'm not done with mine either, but next time I won't run the wires under the floor right over where I welded the tab on the trailer to bolt the body down..

That's easy! I would have put the door in the front and the bed in the back. Bigger wheels..........next one will be smaller

I would have use some 3/8 or 1/2" pvc as a conduit for all eletrical runs to the boxes. I have a short in a DC run and I will have to pull in a new wire. With all the turns and small holes drilled to feed the wire I am certaim during the pull I will lose the new wires in the wall. I just hope it's something I can live without because I am not tearing into the finished interior to replace it. Think out your electrical at the same time you are framing and don't let it be an afterthought.

i would have remembered about the door handles in the galley before working out the size of my counter , nevermind it a learning curve

I would have bought anodized aluminum instead of bare, used 1/2 alum angle instead of 1" for the trim around the sides, used luan doorskins for my cabinets in the galley instead of 1/8th" luan cause the doorskins bend like magic, I would have sprayed the bottom with bedliner before setting it on the frame instead of after. Most of all I wish I would have started mine at the beginning of winter instead of the end, I could have taken more time to build before camping season got here. I had to get mine done in time for spring cause we camp a lot and there was no way I was gonna miss out on some early camping!

I would have finished building my TD in the winter time... it got Darn Tooting HOT last month and I was miserable.

OR Build a BIG shop with AC to build it in first....HA!!!

I would have included a bathroom. My next teardrop, the ET, will have a bathroom.

I would have made mine 5 ft. wide instead of 4 ft. That way two could sleep more comfortably. Also, since I use a full size pickup for towing, it's a pain to back up when you can't see the trailer in the side mirrors!
