Im trimming my Voyager with Diamond Plate.. and was wondering if Diamond Plate can be cut with a jigsaw metal blade?

Im doing the side trim and I need to cut a radius on each end, but before I do it I thought Id ask,,,

A jig saw with a fine tooth blade works great. Wear eye protection. Don't rush the cuts. To get a finished edge just take a file of my favorite use a belt sander, palm sander or drum sander. Work it like wood.

Make sure and put painters tape down where you are going to cut. The shavings will get between the saw base and the aluminum and scratch it.

I always cut from the back side. Scratches don't matter there and the jig saw base will slide on the flat back.

I used some felt on the bottom of the jig saw base facing the Diamond plate as not to scratch the surface of the Diamond plate. I have done that on cabinet work in the past to protect the wood while cutting and not make marks on the wood while using the saw. Just a thought.

Diamond Plate continued...

Now I have the Diamond Plate and was wondering as to how to go about getting it to curve around the front radius... and back of lower hatch radius?

It cut like butter with a new fine tooth metal blade and tape..

I'll be watching this one with interest Heikki I need to bend around a 12" radius and was just thinking about how I could do it. I'm using 1.6mm (whatever that is in Merkan measurements).

Yikes these bugs are gettin on my screen..


Ive been going on the tear at full speed .. no pics or nothing as of yet ..
but its starting to look nice..

So you have the same question do you? I have the old hatch and it has the identical curve so I may just clamp it around that maybe ...
I asked the benders here and they said that they cant do such a radius??
Or was it they didnt want to do it...? But who knows..

But anyway will closely installed screws do the trick or no?

The thickness on ours is about the same Paul maybe 1.5 mm I havent measured the thickness but I do have the gauge to do it..

It should be thin enough that you could get the basic bend by forming it over your leg, a tree, a pipe or something like that. Work slowly so you don't over bend it. Then just screw it down. Are you using some sealer under each screw?

Gerdo thanks... I do plan on using sealer under the screws...Most likely be a benefit correct?

Does this plating need Glue behind it ? Or just where the screws are?
