It seems that about 4 or 5 coats over two coats of Rot doctor’s CPES.
Make sure you seal the end grain good with the CPES.

I started out with 3 coats, but add another coat every year, and thus far probably have 6 or 7 coats of spar varnish on my woodie. I have found that corners and edges of the trim members tend to have the finish wear thin, probably because of sun and moisture in the air. So, I just keep sanding and varnishing, year after year. Now why in the world would someone build a wooden teardrop anyway? Because we just love wood, that's why!

Roly, relegated to sanding and varnishing forever!
