Roof Window

I decided to build a "standie" cause Wifie and me need to be able to stand up in the teardrop. Still would like to see the night sky though. Anybody try mounting thick (about 1/4 inch) plexiglass in the roof? Initially thinking, since we will be lying lengthwise, of about 24 inch by 3-4 foot.
Any thoughts? :campfire:

There are some and one that comes to mind is the Chubby. It has a Plexiglas roof.

Use LEXAN rather than PLEXIGLAS. Lexan won't shatter like Plexi does. It's more expensive, but is worth the diff especially if the Plexi version were to break while out in the boonies and raining! :x
Just a thought. Good luck, Jim

Seems a bit big....

So far the Squidget seems to be a design that will do what I want in reasonable comfort. Hmmm maybe a plexiglass roof would be a nice addition to the design, the air conditioner should take care of any greenhouse effect.

Has anyone here built a squidget?

The lexan was salvaged from several industrial skylights. I bought six 4' x 10' sheets for $ 50.00 out of a newsparer ad for "plastic sheeting"
It will saw fairly well but you have to make a couple passes and real shallow cuts with a fine toothed blade. It will router very well if you have a guide without a guide it melts and grabs the bit and there is no way to control the cut. I wanted sides and all in lexan but the learning curve claimed a couple sheets and the boo boos were just to embarassing to live with. Mine was so thick 5/16 " it was difficult to bend. I heated a couple scrap pieces and it will bend and retain that shape but too much heat and internal bubbles will form and turn the area white. For a standie I'd build a curb and place a oversize cut on top sealing with 100% silicone and pre drill and screw the lexan to the curbing with aluminum flatstock on top of the lexan to distribute the pressure evenly.
