If you have not seen it, the Jul/Aug ’07 issue of Fine WoodWorking has a good article titled, “How strong is your glue?” There were two interesting takeaways for me.

First, being a big fan of epoxy, I was surprised to see a Type I PVA (Titebond III) outperformed epoxy in tight and snug joints and only was slight worst in a loose joint. Seeing that it is far less expensive and easier to use, think I’ll be using more Titebond III in the future.

Second, the poor performance of polyurethane glue (Gorilla Glue). In tight and snug joint the Titebond III was 20-40% stronger. In a loose joint the Gorilla glue was just plain “crap”.

Haha, now you tell me! I just glued up my hardwood spar to hold up my galley door with Gorilla Glue! Oh well, Titebond III for the next one.. :lol:

Don't tell me that I build most of my tear with gorilla glue.

I just watched Norm Abrahams, New Yankey Workshop, use Gorilla G on a project...they didn't actualy show the lable, but you could tell it was GG.

I used Tightbond III on most all my joints (it pays to be cheap sometimes). I used PL adhesive on the skin though.

I've seen posts about different glues before but never really did any kinds of tests myself.
I must say I used Titebond III for the first time this weekend. It's :thumbsup:

great after a few minutes I pulled on the board and :shock:

I was amazed at how well it stuck I rocked the camper tugging on it.
Lets say I'm sold on Titebond III and will stick :rofl:

I've been trying to find the thread on a woodworking forum, but can't...seems to me somebody mentioned that one of the problems with their assessment of Gorilla Glue was that they didn't follow label instructions when gluing, i.e., they didn't clamp it properly.

Might be something to verify in the article, anyway.
