Dear friends

All exterior lighting is working as I mentioned earlier and it looks good..when all lights are on... but

I need to solve more of a cosmetic problem which is annoying - to me anyway...

The lights are round and they have a plastic chrome looking ring around each one.. well the lights themselves are fine sitting on the radius and are sitting nicely but when I installed the "Rings" which are larger in diameter I see a gap on top which is smaller than the gap on bottom ...

and its very annoying.. how can this be fixed? Ok I can leave the rings off but then it dont look very nice plain..

Could a seperate ring be made or a decorator cover ? Or what would you folks do to fix this ?

Any help sure would be greatfully accepted..

Heikki, could you use a bead of white caulk to fill in the gap, making them unnoticeable or do something similar, with a piece of white foam packing/weatherstipping...if you wanna get really radical, how about boiling or baking them for a bit and then push them into place, bending them slightly ........

My friend also suggested the white caulk in that area.. even though I put that idea on the back burner.. as a last resort..

Hmm since the rings are only plastic.. wonder how a heat gun would work? these rings are cheap.. so nothing really wasted if it dont work.
I,ll do some testing on one and see..

Also our friend Doug gave me a pointer a bit ago of cutting some holders out of wood that is shaped to the radius for each one..and epoxying the pieces ...

I also asked our family Jewelry Designer to possibly design somthing out of stainless possibly close to the kind Doug suggested...

It dont affect the lighting actually but it just looks unprofessional... and it bothers me real bad...

A heat gun could work but it might cause the "chrome" to blister. Perhaps, you could strip the chrome off, bend them to suit your radius, then paint them.

Oven cleaner will remove the chrome without harming the plastic. Oven cleaner here comes in a spray can and is a very caustic cleaner.

My eyes must be going bad....cant see what your talking about in the pic..

Are you still looking at some vinyl for the outside of Finn Voyager I. If so could you cover the rings with the same vinyl. I do not know how that would lokk but just a suggestion.

If you don't like it I will crawl back into my hole and watch

Nope not looking for vinyl anymore but waiting for it to be sewn and shipped to me... it will be here early next week..

I may have found a solution from Madjacks and Dougs ideas so Im trying them out first...
