Im apllying the aluminum on my trailer next weekend. I was wondering if any of you had used this on your trailer.
Did you put trim around it? how did you secure it?

Hi there Bob...Yupper Im playing with the diamond plate at present..As far as the trim around it yes there will be.. and what Im using is kitchen wall tile edge trim.. that comes in aluminum color or chrome... well I bought the chrome... and gee it looks good..but ok our trim is a little different here in the land of the Finns but we like what weve got and it will look Finntastic but again that is only our opinions.. :lol:

I used a Sikaflex 221 behind it especially where the screws are being placed..

that looks great.....how are you securing it?????? GLue? I was thinking of glueing it adn then siliconing the edges. Im really struggling with how to figure out how to trim it out, do you put the plating on first then trim around it? then around the other parts of the trailer? how do you keep it flush?

Im securing it with sikaflex and then a few stainless screws... especially at the screw holes..

As you can see Im using a few clamps to hold it in place.. and its flush.
before I install it all the way especially on the top I,ll use the moulding I mentioned above.. because it slides right in and it will lock in place..and behind it I may seal it up too on top behind this moulding so water wont get in there..just to be safe..

I,ll get some photos of the moulding that is widely used for kitchen tile edging or even bathroom tile edging which here in Scandinavia is widely used...

Im putting the screws about 5 inches apart... maybe others are doing it differently but this is my way as the song goes..

I would cut and trial fit this first so you know it will fit ok.. especially if you have curves or sharp radius,s as I do...

We have the diamond plate on ours too! just like Finn we used a sealant and screws to hold. we have about 1500 miles on it now and no issues with any of the alluminum. It's hold up quite well.

Heres a closer view. You can see the screws. It really has more screws than it needs to actually hold it together but tried to get a balanced look to the screws.

any kind of sealant?
what kinda screws are they called?
Im going to be putting a 10 foot by 2 foot pieces on each side and a 6 foot by 4 foot in hte front and a 2x2 in hte rear

Also Im using Stainless Steel (Round) head screws. Many sizes are available..

PS since your pices of Diamond Plate are so long and wide Id use the adhesive also and its very good for this purpose.. Sika T2 and for sealing up the screw holes Id recommend the Sika 221 ...

and no I am not working for Sikaflex :lol:
