Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Has anyone used fiberglass resin to seal the plywood and then painted over it? I was going to try this on mine but wanted to check and see if anyone had done it and how it was holding up to the elements. I was going to paint it with automotive PPG. I would like to color match it to my SUV with a retro Z style paint job.

that's how I do mine...just make sure that any framing like on a woody or the outer perimeter trim as on this one, is sealed really well with epoxy on the edges. And when doing this type of finish, you really need to get the epoxy down nice and smooth or all the uneven spots show. The paint and clear won't hide anything. Doug

CPES should work for this... call rot doc and check with them.

I've used epoxy resin to seal plywood many times - A plywood boat is essentially epoxy resin and wood fibers, primed and painted

Polyester resin sets up too fast to penetrate deeply enough into the wood, so it's seldom used in conjunction with ply in the boatbuilding world

We use an old airplane trick... 75% thinner and 25% polyurethane.... generously slobbered on , soaks in and waterproofs the ply and wood ...any finish seems to go well over it ...Cheap too and not so smelly...it will even waterproof cardboard...

I decided that I would go with the FG resin as I have experience doing FG work and it is readily available locally.
I gat all the latex stripped Tuesday night and sanded and laid down the first coat of resin last night. Remember Bondo is your friend!
