Socal Teardrop hatch hinge install

Here are a few points and photos when using this hinge.
When installing the roof and hatch skin I left a 1/16" lip where the skin meets the hinge. The alloy skin was glued down on the edge then the 1/16" lip was removed with a router so the skin was perfectly flush with the edge of the wood where the hinge leaves mount . The hinge lip fit well and a good seal was had with the caulking in this area.
As an alternative to the SoCal hatch seal you can purchase, my hatch seal method performs well and is easily constructed and maintained by a home builder and is very foregiving. This is standard closed cell seal tape found at a building supply stores. The black seal is laid down on top of the wood edge prior to installing the corner edge molding. The alloy molding is screwed down over the black seal. The black seal is trimmed to fit the width of the edge. The gray colored narrower foam seal tape is laid down on top of the black seal tape and positioned to the inside of the galley opening, creating a 1/4" tall dam. It all compresses very well keeping out water and dust.
