In my opinion trying to open a door on the hinge side with over hanging "T" molding won't work since the "T" molding will hit the side of the tear and bind. I used SS piano hinges butted inside the door and jamb and ran the "T" molding up to the hinges. You could also flush mount the SS hinges from the outside and run the "T" molding up to the hinges. :D Danny

Canuck!

Any good piano hinge (stainless steel, aluminum, chromed steel) of about .060" thickness will work just fine for your application, mounted with the leaves between the door and door frame. Just remember to offset the door out 1/8" so that the door won't "bind" the T-Molding & Door Seal in the closed position. In your case, I'd recommend one that is 3" wide in the open position.

I typically trim out the edges (hinge side) with Edge Molding before installing my hinge, so it will have that finished look ... and I also run a piece of Drip Molding down in front of the door hine to help keep rainwater from being driven into the hinge while towing down the highway (even though I run a strip of weather seal between the hinge leaves).

Drop me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll be happy to shoot you a drawing!

Good Luck, and ...

Steve, I just used regular painted hinges. My doors are also about an inch wide. I plan to put weather stripping between the door and wall. Also, the cap above the door should help to keep the rain out....

Don't know how that will work with your molding tho....

This is the one I used. Works great. I also used it on the hatch.
