Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Quick question for those that have done heat and a/c on their trailers, how big of a space will the PETcool unit handle? I am planning on insulating the walls on my aliner plan, so im sure that would help. Or would it make more sense to go with a 5000 btu wall unit?

I think the PetCool would adequately cool just about any teardrop, even an uninsulated one

5,000 Btu's is way overkill for small trailers, but I'm using one in my Little Guy - The difference between $300+ and 80 bucks is just way too much to ignore

the price is a bit of a difference in the favor of the window unit

But remember, the pet cool also heats. ( Im still going with a window unit too)

Heat is easy to come by . . . . plus your air conditioning unit will last longer if it's not running in reverse cycle for use in heating

The only two advantages I can see with a PetCool are 1.) If you want/need to sit it to one side (or under the trailer) because there's absolutely no way you could permanently build in a small window unit and 2.) If the PetCool will actually start and run reliably on a 1KW genset . . . . because most window units won't

Money wise the window shaker is the way to go. The problem I've had with my window unit, I've heard others have this problem also, is it does not run very long to cool the space. Because of the quick cycling of the compressor the AC doesn't remove the humidity very well. In Arkansas this summer I had it freezing cold in the tear but still really humid inside. It was just too expensive for me the justify the Pet Cool.

Quick cycling is exactly the problem. Ive been in the A/C trade 25 years now and it baffles me why people think bigger is better then wonder why it doesnt work right. Im building a small window out of an old 5000 shell. should be between 1800 and 2200 btu,s when im done.

Ron B - How would I go about "detuning" the AC to bring it down to say 2000 btu? If I vented a portion of the cool air out to the compressor would it help with the fast cycling? Thanks.

If you vent about half of the cool air out side that would work, but dont just block half the air off . A smaller amount of incoming cool air will make the unit run longer and let it dehumidify.

For the price and the limited times I would be needing it, I'm taking my chances with the window shaker.....................just finished an insert for next years use. The price was right for the a/c, $60 at Home Depot. If it doesn't run well enough for me then I've got an extra unit for home use.

Nows the time to think about it as window units are going on clearance for the fall and winter, i too would like to have more info on turning down a unit to make it run longer, sure makes sense
